Triumph
2008 digitally remastered and expanded Legacy Edition of this album from the R&B legends formerly known as The Jackson 5 (their defection to CBS left Jermaine and their old name behind with the Motown empire). Includes three bonus tracks. This 1980 album has the group fleshing out their sound and songwriting abilities even more. The anthemic "Can't You Feel It" has enough hubris and undeniable craft to get this polished work started. But as Triumph plays, what's striking is that the songs don't immediately leap out at you but they all land on their feet. The blissful and funky tracks found on this album are effortless, punchy which maximizes the album. Triumph is a gorgeous effort and remains an absolute necessity for any comprehensive collection. 12 tracks. Sony/BMG.

-- bellissimo album
When this album came out it was an automatic CLASSIC! Fabulous CD. One of the best albums that Michael and the Jacksons ever recorded. Dance till you drop! -- Triumph by the Jacksons
so having been a Michael Jackson fan for some time now, i decided to explore his other music (the jackson 5 and the jacksons). i own a copy of "can you feel it? the jacksons collecion" which i just couldnt get enough of. i decide to buy all of the jacksons studio albums which i have been meaning to do for some time now. i finally ended up purchasing "The Jacksons", "Destiny" and "Triumph" first before the others because these are supposed to be the best albums they have done. i can tell you that i cannot get enough of them-they are amazing!!!
i love Michael's young, fresh and soulful voice on this album as well as the tracks themselves. there is not one track that i dont like. they all could have been chart toppers. this album includes the classics "Can you feel it?" and "This Place hotel" (AKA Heartbreak Hotel). woth the buy!!! -- AMAZING!!
This was after "Off the Wall" pre "Thriller" and this was really the last album the Jacksons did together that was truly awesome! I wish they would have gotten back together before Michael died to do another album but I guess it was not meant to be! I will truly miss Michael but through his music he will live forever! -- I love the Jacksons
Triumph is one terrific album by Michael Jackson and his brothers who now billed themselves as The Jacksons. They bat these songs straight out of the ballpark and I'm very impressed. The Jacksons had sophisticated phrasing and a certain genius that we very rarely hear or enjoy; and of course Michael's talent in particular shone quite brightly--it always will. The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and that artwork is very nicely done.
The CD starts with "Can You Feel It," an awesome, dynamic number with a throbbing beat that makes me want to jump up and dance practically wherever I am; and that's great. Michael sings to perfection and beyond; his excellent diction enhances his performance all the more and he never skips a beat, either. Indeed, The Jacksons handle complex tempo and key changes like the pros they always were and still remain! "Lovely One" features Michael front and center--which is right where he belongs! "Lovely One" has a great chorus built into the lyrics that Michael handles with panache. I love it! The single version of "Your Ways" again has Michael singing at his usual very best; and the music that plays fits in perfectly with the vocals. Wisely, however, the musicians never even try to steal the show away from Michael and his siblings--they let The Jacksons have the spotlight to themselves with the music supporting them and fleshing out these numbers.
"Everybody" is very well done; and listen for "This Place Hotel (a/k/a Heartbreak Hotel)." "This Place Hotel (a/k/a Heartbreak Hotel)" was always one of my favorite numbers by Michael and The Jacksons; this is a highlight of this album, too. This music is memorable, to say the least--it's all THAT good. "Time Waits for No One" is a tender number that gets a most sensitive arrangement; Michael sings those lyrics so very well--what an artist he was!
"Walk Right Now" is probably my favorite number on this CD; Michael sings this with style and a lot of energy--it's electric! The tune has a disco flavor to it as well. The Jacksons provide Michael with some mighty fine backup and overall "Walk Right Now" is easily a major highlight of this CD. "Walk Right Now" uses the percussion and more to great advantage, too. "Give It Up" gives us a u-turn back into a much more sensitive ballad and I really like how Michael and The Jacksons do this one with style. "Wondering Who" just plain sounds good; and that electric guitar makes the music even stronger as Michael and his siblings do this faultlessly.
The CD has three bonus tracks that give us something extra special; and that's excellent. We get another version of "This Place Hotel (a/k/a Heartbreak Hotel)" that is done to perfection; and the John Luongo disco mix of "Walk Right Now" is awesome. The album ends with an instrumental track, also mixed by John Luongo, of "Walk Right Now."
Triumph gives us nothing but excellent material from Michael and the rest of The Jacksons; it's certainly a "must-have" for their fans. I highly recommend this CD. -- they rarely make 'em as good as this anymore
